CSF ADVENT DEVOTIONAL 2024
Advent begins in darkness; it starts with an aching anticipation with all of creation for the coming dawn. Derived from a Latin word meaning “coming” or “arrival,” Advent is the season in which we await the arrival of God in Jesus. There is a wonder and mystery that underlies this season in which hope is grown, and yet in Advent we emulate the ancients’ ache for the arrival of God in human form as we wait for God to return.
Our waiting in Advent ultimately gives way to humanity’s hope fulfilled, the celebration of Emmanuel - God with Us. Christmas is the beautiful celebration that our God broke into human history, becoming himself a fragile refugee infant, in order to save us and redeem creation.
The Scripture readings for these four weeks of Advent will explore the classic themes of the four Sundays of Advent: hope, peace, joy, and love. You’ll also notice three days with the theme of the Kingdom among us and that’s intentional to further our experience of celebrating the birth of Jesus all throughout December as we head into the new year of 2025!
Thank you for joining our community going through this Advent Devotional together, and we pray it draws you closer into the powerful love Jesus has lavished on us this Christmas season!
